By Jennie Sandoval

Dirt is easily attracted to surfaces that are wooden, plastered or even made of glass. To ensure a healthy living environment, it is important to learn how to keep such surfaces clean. Below are some tips on how to achieve great window washing results.

There are various materials and tools required for use in cleaning. One of the basic requirements is water in a bucket. Look for a suitable detergent as water alone may not remove all the dirt. A rag is used for scrubbing the different surfaces. However, for better results, a mop could be used in the place of rags. The mop is made up of a t-bar and a sleeve which thoroughly scrubs the glass removing most of dirt.

For windows that are exposed to many hands, or a lot of dirt, it may be necessary to use the scraper to remove the stickiest marks. Of importance is to use it keenly since it can cause damages to the glass. If possible, one should get some training on how to use the scraper. It is also important to use it on a wet surface. After removing the dirt, a squeegee is then used to help suck excess water.

Due to the shape of most windows, it is hard to get to the corners and edges using the squeegee. The help of a soft toothbrush and some cotton swab will go a long way in cleaning the edges. These can easily remove water left at the edges and any other place the squeegee may have missed. Pieces of a newspaper should also be kept at hand as they are known to help in giving the windows a shine once they are dry.

After the collection of the materials that one needs, some basic steps are followed to ensure clean windows. Using a rag dipped in the water one can rub the windows gently. This process is necessary as it loosens most of the dirt. To remove the dirt completely, you can repeat this procedure a few times.

If after using the mop some parts still have paint or varnish marks, you can then use the scraper that has a blade purposely installed to remove these. You should make sure that the scraper makes a forward movement only. This is because repeated forward and backward strokes will lead to scratches on the surface. Once you are through with all the dirt, use a squeegee to get rid of the excess water.

Any corners that the squeegee cannot reach can then be dried with the help of some rags. At this point, you should check to see how the window looks and determine whether there is need to repeat the above procedure. Any traces of dirt on the glass can be removed with the scraper and dried using the squeegee.

This process is never through without cleaning the frames. Wipe them using some wet and dry cloths simultaneously. The newspaper pieces are then rubbed against the glass gently to give it a sparkling finish. These are basic window washing secrets and persons can improve the techniques if they discover something that works better for them.
