Daniel Bryan: Will An Obstacle Course Race Help Him?

By Rob Sutter

I believe that Daniel Bryan has the opportunity that all other wrestling stars would kill for at SummerSlam. Going up against WWE Champion John Cena for the title, it's the kind of opportunity that doesn't come around often for most individuals. As a result, it's probably a given that Bryan is going to work harder so that the approaching bout will be one not to miss. Is it possible for an obstacle course race to serve as the best form of training an athlete can imagine?

There are many words that can be linked to Bryan's wrestling style but quick is one of the words that come to mind first. He's strong for a 5'9'' athlete but this isn't where he thrives. You would have a much better chance of seeing Bryan leap from the turnbuckle than ever watch him press another athlete over his head as if they were a barbell. Bryan's work has revolved around the fact that he moves quickly and I feel as though this is for the best.

From what I've watched of Bryan as well, he does not seem to be opposed to taking great amounts of abuse in the ring. Seeing as how he is a smaller worker in the ring, he finds himself overwhelmed by times by opponents who are bigger than he is. As a result, it's probably worth noting that the idea of this style of race is going to call for a great deal of effort. You may find yourself becoming exhausted rather quickly but it's another challenge for any plucky contender to overcome.

Bryan can potentially find himself at home in an obstacle course race but only if he's willing to put forth the needed amount of effort and then some. However, it's apparent that he's competitive and I feel like very few will be able to argue with such a sentiment. Whether an opponent is immensely popular or not, Bryan is not going to hold back in the slightest. Going head-on is important when you're talking about a litany of events, Spartan Race included amongst them.

You can probably guess that I am a fan of an obstacle course race serving as a means of training for any kind of athlete. Bryan is going to be involved in the biggest title match he's ever been part of and now it's a matter of him working twice as hard so that he will be able to seize a victory. I believe that his hard work in the ring speaks for itself and that's just on any given night. When he elevates it further, one has to wonder if there's any chance of him leaving SummerSlam without the WWE Championship.
