Before I start, I need to confess to you that I am not a doll expert. Not really. But I have learned quite a lot about dolls over the past year and can share my new found wisdom with others, especially dads. See, I'm a dad of two daughters. I have lots experience with dolls. But, that's not why I know so much. It's because I started this doll website because it's a good niche for marketing. So, I research all kinds of dolls and have actually become quite knowledgeable in the area and can help some of you out.
Today I want to talk about fashion dolls. I'm choosing these dolls because I just wrote a page for my site on the subject and I was a little appalled. The subject is Monster High Dolls. Just like any doll category, I find the dolls that can be marketed, create a store section for them, and then research the doll so I can write an article about them. When I looked at the dolls, I had two initial thoughts. First, that they reminded me of Bratz Dolls and second, they look like young ladies who use Halloween as an excuse to dress like a slut.
Lets first examine the category of fashion dolls. Be definition, fashion dolls are those that are intended to be dressed to reflect fashion trends. This by nature is not a problem. In fact, Barbie dolls are fashion dolls. I realize than many people take issue with the bodies of some of these dolls, but at least they have some class. But, some of these modern dolls are introducing young girls to a style of dress that most dads wouldn't approve of.
These dolls are unbelievable! You know the type; they look like young girls that have been pushed into prostitution. They put on lots of makeup, wear skimpy clothes and high heels. Trust me, if you saw your daughter dressed like this you would flip. Bratz dolls are the standard for this and they are disgusting.
My first thought is to be upset with the manufacturers, but then again, if parents weren't buying these items, then no one would make them. So parents, what's the deal? Do you really ant your little girls wanting to modelling this behavior? Please stop buying these kinds of products so they go away.
